7 new deacons, Vietnam
HCM/Saigon June 16, 2014 -- On Thursday 5 June 2014, Diaconate ordinations were held at the Xuan Hiep church at 6:30 in the morning. The event was presided over by Bishop Peter Nguyen Van Kham, Auxiliary Bishop Saigon Archdiocese, who came there 15 minutes in advance and was warmly welcomed by Fr Joseph Tran Hoa Hung, the Provincial, and by the Rector of Rinaldi Formation House, Fr. JB Nguyen Van Them.

Seven clerics from Rinaldi Formation House, who have completed their third year of theology were ordained deacons. In the past, because priestly ordination must have  permission from the government, diacoante ordinations were held only one or two days beforehand. Everything has changed now, so our clerics have one year of exercising the diaconate ministry before their priestly ordination at the end of the 4th year of theology.

Up until now the annual priestly ordinations are held at the end of August. Following this they are assigned to their new communities.

Every year, first professions and perpetual professiona are held in the middle of August.

Readers could no worse than to take a look at the SDB Viet website which is no slouch in the web world today - full of news, well-designed, and very obviously geared to helping this numerically large province to keep up with Salesian news (pretty much all key news items from ANS are translated into Vietnamese). Of course, the site opens in Vietnamese, but there is little difficulty in choosing to translate it into English (Chrome users can do that easily and it only takes one or two steps for other browsers to do similarly).
