2588 Resources - Ordo

A resource or two

ROME: 2nd February 2010 -- There are one or two resources that may be of interest around the Region. Often, these resources are put together after a request from far-off places, or an idea from someone - or some simply wants to share what he has with others.  You would be surprised the number of requests, discussions of ideas and the like that arrive each day!
While it is far too late for this year, anybody in the future who might be looking for the Mass texts for the Feast of St John Bosco will now find them on SDL. We tend to make the assumption that this would be available anyway in printed material in each House so it's not necessary to provide it elsewhere. True in 99% of cases, but one reader is from Russia and he needed the Mass texts for a Mass in English the following day - he got them.
Some of you may know of Fr Lens.  Fr Lens is an elderly but very active Salesian in the Novitiate community in Hyderabad Province.  He has helped out many a time with translations, being competent in a number of languages - and English is not his mother tongue, though you wouldn't know it.  Anyway, Fr Lens is now working on a Salesian Ordo for his own purposes, and having received a copy of the February (and March) drafts of this, I thought it might serve as a model if anyone wanted to do something similar in a community or even a Province context.  With the help of Open Office, which is especially suited to setting up structured documents using styles, the February edition is now available as a .doc file.  Because it is well-structured it is easier for anyone to extend now to other months in a local context.  The birthdays are obviously people from Fr Lens's province so just eliminate those and replace them/move them to appropriate spots.  It's a very simple idea, but could be useful in a community especially.  If you develop this idea, be kind enough to share your developments!
Within the next 24 hours, all SC Delegates and a few others in the region will be contacted by email with a temporary address to access the new sdb.org 2.0.  This will be an invitation to try it out, comment on what works and what doesn't work, what you like and what you don't like. errors, and the like.  sdb.org 2.0 is now in its final beta stage, and following several weeks of tests will be revealed to the world at large. If you do not receive an email but would particularly like to be part of the testing process, just let's know.
