'We have no home': Best Editorial Award, Aus Salesian Bulletin

PERTH: 6th Sept '04 -- Australian Salesian Bulletin editor, Fr. Frank Freeman, has earned yet another award for his work, this time for his editorial 'We have no home'.  The award was given by the Australasian Catholic Press Association (ACPA) at its annual convention held, this year, in the West Australian capital city of Perth.
The award citation reads thus:

"The issue of illegal immigrants/ refugees/ asylum seekers has divided Australia. The author writes with passion and powerfully as he is confronted by the reality of brave and daring people caged behind a "high steel fence".  He is a witness to mothers and men in "unsandalled feet" treated as criminals. The author looks today's edge-livers in the eye, sees their despair and asks why Australia cannot find a more humane system for dealing with these people, He presents in simple terms a case for the "tradition of Christian love" to soften hearts and minds."

Fr. Freeman is no stranger to awards for the quality of writing and editorial direction of the Australian Salesian Bulletin over many years now.  For a number of years he was also an executive member of ACPA.
