China Province: Don Bosco’s Heart – Heart to Heart

Hong Kong: 25 January 2013
-- 20 January 2013 was a great day for all the members of the Salesian Family from China Province. The launching ceremony for the second year of the 3 year preparation for the Bicentenary of Don Bosco’s birth was held with more than 800 Salesian family members who came together at the Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village.

China Province uses the motto “Don Bosco’s Heart – Heart to Heart” as a way of expressing the Rector Major's injunction “to know, imitate and inherit Don Bosco’s spirit”, over these 3 years of preparation for the Bicentenary. This launching ceremony was to ignite the fire of Salesian Family members to follow Don Bosco, to invite more people to join the Salesian Family through the encounter with his successors.

Cardinal Joseph Zen, Fr Lanfranco Fedrigotti, Provincial of the China Province, Sr. Monica Liu, Provincial Superior of the Daughters of Mary Help Christians, Sr. Mabel Chan, Supreme Moderator of the Sisters Announcers of The Lord and the chairpersons of all the Salesian Family groups officiated at the launching ceremony.

Then a racing competition round the 400 meter track took place: 200 laps around the sports field! The runners were secondary students, teachers and youth centre members. After the competitions, the emotion of the crowd was high, they responded to an invitation to go down to the tracks for a round-field walk, sharing a most delightful atmosphere. Fr. Provincial lead the track-walk.

Finally, a 200-piece jigsaw puzzle, each piece about 1 metre square, was put together and displayed on the sports ground with the help of 200 Salesian youthful members and parishioners. This represented our determination and good will in preparation for the Bicentenary, to build up the Salesian Family, to realise the vision of Don Bosco and to continue to reach more people through Don Bosco’s spirituality and charism.

After the event, participants felt that the most impressive part was the flag waving moment by all the Salesian Family members, showing their unity under the banner of Don Bosco. Everyone wished that they could do more for Don Bosco. Fr. Lanfranco also encouraged us to actively participate in the events over the next few years.
