Cambodia: World AIDS Day 1 month Awareness Program

PHNOM PENH: 11th December 2005 -- Don Bosco Cambodia commemorated WAD 2005 with a one month Awareness activities program culminating in two youth gatherings.  On 9-10 November the WAD 2005 part one: "Coming Together" was organised for 250 children and their caregivers from PLHA environments.  The topic was "AIDS is a health problem; let's face and accept it courageously".  The target group were beneficiaries of the Project Support Orphans from HIV/AIDS with ARV medicines.
On 8-9 December, WAD 2005 part two: PLHA are sick people; "let's understand them" was organised for normal and physically handicapped children.  This target group has 310 healthy children from the project Basic Educational Scholarship and Distance Adoption.
The two activities were hosted by Don Bosco Centre Kep, putting into action its slogan: "where the perfect combination of relaxing and exciting facilities with a formation slant roll into one".
The Don Bosco Children Fund is a Salesian program aiming to help disadvantaged children from the streets and rural villages gain access to basic and better schooling.  At present there are about 5,000 children scattered in small units across the 14 provinces of Cambodia.
