South Asian Seminar on “Salesian life”

TIRUCHY: 13 July 2005
--  From the 8-10 July 2005, Twenty Seven Salesians from the various provinces and vice provinces (except Myanmar) of South Asia gathered in the provincial house of Tiruchy, India (INT), to reflect on  “Salesian Life”, led by the confreres of these circumscriptions. This seminar was the last of a series of seminars conducted by the confreres of South Asia under the auspices of the South Asian Salesian Provincial Conference. To prepare themselves in a profitable manner for the centenary celebrations of the arrival of the Salesians to South Asia particularly in Tanjore, in South India, on 14 January 1906, the Salesians thought of reflecting on the various aspects of Salesian apostolate. Other seminars on youth, especially Youth at Risk (YAR), on the Missions, Evangelization and Catechesis preceded the present seminar.
This seminar focused its attention on “Salesian Life” as such, in order to see how far we are living the charism of our Founder, to take stock of our fidelity to the Founder, the lacunae and the means to fill up the lacunae in our commitment to Don Bosco. In order to enable the participants to profit by the seminar helps were given to the members through a Key Note address on Salesian Life: Challenges and Responses, followed by an evaluation of each province. The Profile of a South Asian Salesian for the next century, his Formation for the future, how a local and provincial community should be were also tabled in order to enable the participants to have a profitable discussion and to draw up a Final Statement.
Now it depends on the participants to disseminate the fruits of the seminar to the confreres of their respective provinces.
