Resolutions of the 11th Asia - Oceania Congress of Don Bosco Past Pupils

Dili, Timor Leste, 7 October 2016 -- The 11th EAO Congress of Salesian Family Past Pupils brings many fruits. Fr. Michael, one of the EAO provincial delegates to the Don Bosco Past Pupils shares: 'We were overhelmed by the wonderful hospitality of Timorese Salesian Family in Dili. They did really all possible to make us feel at home. As regards the Congress theme, it was a very good insight into the social teaching of the Catholic Church, very meaningful for our situation. Our 10 members strong delegation was able to discuss deeply about the future direction of the Korean Federation. Indeed sometimes we move at the level of socializing, as a group of friends. This Congress motivates us to growth..!"

Resolution of the 11th Asia-Oceania Congress of Don Bosco Alumni
Dili - 4th- 8th October 2016

We, the Alumni of Don Bosco of Asia – Oceania region commit ourselves to the care about the world, making it a worthy dwelling place for us and for those coming after us, and with a clear social concern and justice, taking into consideration the seven key priorities of the World Confederation Strategic Plan;

We resolve that every national federation will prepare by 31.1.2017 their development or strategic plan, indicators and timeframe based on the seven key priorities of the Past Pupils Association.

We resolve that every national federation will work actively on the networking of their Past pupils by completing the preparing of the database within one year based on the format suggested by the World Confederation of the Past Pupils.

Attached to this resolution are the proposals from the group discussions for consideration and implementation of the seven priorities by national federations.

The National presidents and Delegates of Asia-Oceania Region shall meet with the regional councilors in 2018 for the midterm evaluation of the resolution and discuss issues pertaining to the Region.

Priorities discussed by the Working Groups

  1. Growth and Sustainable Structure
    • Establish strong national structures, local union structures and secretariat
    • Documentation and uniform reporting structure
    • Develop integrated annual plan

  2. Formation and Training
    • Networking in Vocational and career guidance
    • Formation in Leadership, Financial Management, Marketing and Time, Management and Faith, Family planning
    • Preparing volunteers to reach out to the needy (serve others)

  3. Gex Promotion
    • Salesian House, Salesian School (Leadership promotion and employment promotion
    • Unit of Past Pupil organization
    • Published journal and magazine

  4. Funding and Fundraising
    • Annual affiliations charges.
    • Facilitating job placement and collecting fees from corporates
    • Sponsorships and voluntary contributions

  5. Family support
    • Family formation: organized by Alumni Association, every month in the local level
    • Family gathering: every Sunday, organize alumni
    • Family conference: regional (once every 4 years), create organizing committee

  6. Salesian Family
    • Challenge: Education, Economy and Materialistic mentality
    • Strategies: Dialogue, Pastoral Care, Unity
    • Commitment: formation, honesty, moral value

  7. Communication and External relations
    • Establish a full function regional secretariat as the centres of regional communication network for Asia – Oceania region. (not feasible as it is against the World Confederation Statute)
    • Establish various communication channels using all available means such as online social media applications
    • Identify all available alumni in the region with various skills and expertise as a key for developing specific network for external relation in the fields of social, economic and politics.
