5021(I)_The Fifth Don Bosco Film Festival

Makati City, the Philippines, 23 February 2019 -- The awarding ceremony of the Fifth Don Bosco Film Festival (DBFF) was held last February 23, 2019, Saturday at the JOY CENTER of Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati City. Finalists to this annual film festival from the different Salesian settings together with some parents, educators, and representatives from the festival’s sponsors began arriving at 11:00 in the morning. Lunch was served at 12:00 noon.


The awarding ceremony began at 1:00pm with the singing of the National Anthem. The emcees, Fr. Juvelan Samia, SDB and Reverend Deacon Jerome Quinto, SDB, both members of the FIN Commission on Social Communications, welcomed everyone and gave their introductory remarks. In a special way, they recognized three Salesian settings: Don Bosco Batulao, St. John Bosco Parish, Sta. Rosa, Laguna, and Don Bosco Academy, Bacolor, Pampanga, as it was their first time to join this annual film festival.


Fr. Bernard ‘Drans’ Nolasco, SDB, gave the Welcome Remarks right after the Invocation that was sung by the Coro di Don Bosco.


Filipino Film Director Kip Oebanda, a member of the DBFF Board of Judges and an alumnus of Don Bosco Technical College, Mandaluyong City, was this year’s Keynote Speaker. He challenged the young bosconian filmmakers present in this event to use their God-given talent and passion for filmmaking into producing worthwhile stories that can truly serve the good interest of society. As filmmakers, they have a big responsibility in using this tool to serve the genuine values of life.


Before the giving of the awards in the different categories, a five-minute audiovisual presentation was presented that showed the five years of this Don Bosco Film Festival. It is worth looking back at these five wonderful years with grateful hearts.


Fr. Joel Camaya, SDB and Ms. Imelda Benitez-Domitita, both members of the FIN Commission on Social Communications, gave the trophies to the winners under the One-Minute Advertisement Category and the Documentary Film Category; and to this year’s People’s Choice Awardee. While for the Short Film Category, Fr. Felino ‘Ditto’ Gueco, SDB, the Acting FIN Provincial Superior, and Fr. Favie Faldas, SDB, the Rector of Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati City were the ones who gave the trophies to the winners.


This year’s guest performers, The Coro Di Don Bosco, an all-male choir of St. John Bosco Parish, Makati City, rendered two songs during the intermission.
