Seoul, 9 April 2020 -- After 55 years since its foundation, there are more than 3000 out-of-school young people who received a holistic Salesian education inthe Don Bosco Youth Center in Seoul.

Over these long years the DBYC has received many awards and recognition from civil authorities and government institutions (President of Korea, Prime minister, Ministry of Labour and different Foundations). The Education Prize is given to an individual or organization that has contributed to the systematic development of creative education and the dissemination of it.

On 8 April 8, 2020 due to the Covid19 special situation, the POSCO Foundation held the awarding ceremony in an exceptionally low key way, without large participation. Only four leaders - representatives of DBYC Seoul (Vocation Training Center) were present at the POSCO SEOUL CENTER: Br. Marino Bois (Italian missionary), Br. Philip Yoon, Fr. Marcello Baek (rector of DBYC-SDB community) and Mr. Noh il jong.

POSCO (Pohang Steel Company, founded in 1968) is among the global steel industry leaders. Since 2007 the POSCO Foundation awards every year a 'POSCO TJ PARK PRIZE’ (named according the late founder Tae Jo Park, 1927-2011) to an individual or organization with outstanding contribution in science, education, social services and technology. So far 48 different individuals and organizations received this award in 4 categories.

In the POSCO-made video clip we can admire the heart-touching testimonials by the President of the DBYC Alumni, by one newly enrolled Vocation Training Center student, by counselling and technical staff with the final motivation of the POSCO Foundation panel presided by its President Mr. Kim Seon Uk (video clip link).

While we congratulate to the numerous members of DBYC educative-pastoral community, Don Bosco Alumni, many industries, well-wishers and benefactors of this Vocation Training Center, we pray that more young people in need would get the opportunity to receive holistic education in Don Bosco style in the future.
