INDIAN SALESIANS OPT FOR FORE EFFECTIVE MEDIA MINISTRY AMONGST YOUTH

MUMBAI: 10th September -- The Provincials and mass media delegates of the eight provinces of the SDB's in India met to discuss the topic: "Communications in management and ministry" at a three day meeting held at Don Bosco Matunga. Present on the occasion was Fr Antonio Martinelli, the General Councillor for Communications, Rome and his team.

Mr. Walter Veira, eminent management consultant and presently chairman of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes provided the input for the first day of the seminar. He spoke at length on the fulcrum role of communications in the management of an organisation. He elaborated on communication strategies for management within as well as outside the organisation. Fr. Martinelli and his team presented the 'objectives for a communications ministry within the Salesian organisation'. Fr. Francis Anthony presented 'The effects of the media on young people'. He also revealed the findings of a survey he conducted especially amongst street children and school children in Bombay. Fr. Thomas Polackal, the National Youth Pastoral Delegate, made an assessment of the different ways the provincial departments of communication were addressing the needs of young people in India today.

Fr. C. M. Paul, president UNDA-OCIC and Fr. Johnson Kottaram, director of Bosco Institute of Electronics, Hyderabad, stressed the necessity of keeping abreast of the various advances in communication technology and networking.
