GROWING IN SYNERGY and COORDINATION EAO 2016

August 25, 2016

By Fr. Vaclav Klement, SDB

Manila, the Philippines, 24 August 2016 -- Among the 7 Salesian Regions around the world, the EAO region is probably the last organized and structured especially due to its wonderful diversity of situations, languages and cultures. Other regions have many commissions or animation center, formation center or inter-provincial conference structures. As fruit of the 2015 study about the EAO Region in the General Council a second meeting of the EAO coordinators was held in the Makati, Manila - Provincial house of the FIN, Northern Philippines Province on August 24.

The regional councilor called all present coordinators of various sectors - Formation (Br. Raymond Callo), Youth Ministry (Fr. Martin Macasaet), Economy (Fr. Adriano Satura), Social Communications (Fr. Drans Nolasco) and the EAO Secretary Fr. Felino Gueco Jr. The EAO coordinator for the Missionary Animation Fr. Andrew Fung and EAO regional delegate for the Salesian Cooperators Fr. Dominic Suphot were absent due to own province events.

During the morning hours of August 24 in a lively discussion the group (called ECG = EAO Coordinators Group) shared and reflected in depth few concrete strategies for more effective coordination of the main sectors of Salesian life and mission. Sharing of good practices among the sectors was very enriching - smart Soc.Com. strategy of conducting the biennial meeting (SC), Regulations for the EAO regional commission on Formation, good practice from each province or delegation sharing (Economy), Protocol for the preparation, conduction and follow up of the annual meetings (Formation) and EAO online-digital regional archive (Secretary).

Few concrete lines of action were agreed:

  • Each sector will work out own 'regulations' for the provincial delegates coordination

  • Each coordinator will work out his 'job description' - as common ground for the expectations from the General Councilors and need-expectations from the provinces and our region

  • For the sake of continuity of each sector animation we keep the digital minutes and their hard copy in the regional archives (Rome - EAO office and Manila - EAO archives in FIN provincial house)

  • Apart of present coordination of Formation (delegates, formation of formators, quinquennium, rectors formation), Youth ministry (delegates), Social communication (delegates, publishers, Salesian bulletin editors), Economy (Provincial economers, PDO and Mission Office directors, Missionary animation, some other areas of coordination were reflected: YM - Youth at Risk, Vocation Training Centers and Lay Missionary Volunteers.

We are grateful to the generosity of all confreres involved (part time) in this valuable service of coordination!
