By Bro. Jomar Castillo, SDB

São Paolo, Brazil, 3 February 2018 -- 11 new deacons from the Salesian Provinces of Brazil were ordained by Bishop Eduardo Pinheiro da Silva, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Jabiticabal in St. John Bosco Parish, Alto da Lapa, São Paolo/SP. They chose "Dei-vos o exemplo" (I have given you an example) from John 13:15 as their ordination theme. Among the new decons is Dcn. José Tran Tai Hoang, SDB, a Vietnamese missionary from the Salesian Missionary Province of Manaus (BMA). He is the very first Vietnamese missionary to be ordained in Brazil. Confreres from the BMA Province present during the ceremony were Fr. Francisco Alves de Lima (the out-going provincial of BMA) with Fr. Augusto Bartoli, Br. João Batista Dinh Viet Tien and Cl. Bartolomeu Quang Lam Son.

Dcn. José Tran is one of the missionaries from the EAO region presently working in Brazil. In 2010, during the 141st Salesian Missionary Expedition, Fr. Pascual Chavez, SDB sent him as a missionary to Brazil - BMA. He arrived in the Province of Manaus as a practical trainee and did his apostolate among the young people in schools, social works, and missions among indigenous groups. He is now in his last year of theological studies in the Salesian study center in São Paolo/SP. Let us pray, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians, for their joyful perseverance and fidelity following the example of St. John Bosco!
