PIJIN JESUS FILM

Catholic Communications Solomons

(Ambrose Pereira)

HONIARA: 1st Nov -- JESUS CHRIST is the most remarkable, powerful and

attractive person in all

of history ! No one else has influenced people as much as He has. He is

the one who gave a vision to Bill Bright in 1951, to help take the message

of His Love and Forgiveness to the world. The vision became Campus Crusade

for Christ. For years Bill wanted to have a movie that would tell the life

story of Jesus just as it is written in the Bible. In 1970’s, John Haman, a

Jewish man was introduced to Bill Bright, who had commenced making

documentary films on the Genesis and wanted to do a New Testament book. On

the advice of scholars they chose to do a film on the life of Jesus, based

in the Gospel of Luke. The movie was produced by Warner Bros., filmed on

location in the Holy Land. John was careful to see that everything was as

in the day of Christ – 2000 years ago.

The movie was shown in the Theatres around the world about 20 years ago. Then

Campus Crusade for Christ obtained the 16 mm Film and TV rights for most

countries of the world and began to translate and dub the Jesus Film in

local languages. As of April 1999, 523 languages have been completed, and

about 2 billion people have seen the Film. Millions of people have had

their lives transformed by the message of the Film. It is about the most

viewed and translated Film of all of history!

During 1998, Solomon Islands Campus Crusade for Christ, in co-operation with

Solomon Islands Translation Advisory Group, worked on the translation of the

script for the film and also the audio/radio version. Conrad Manfort and

Aloysious Jack worked on the translation in Auki, and an Approval Committee,

which included Gerry Beimers and Bob Carter, together with members of the

local churches worked to "Lip Sync" the translation. Last November, Mike

Kessler and Chris Shipley, came in to Honiara and about 30 Solomon Islanders

spoke their voice parts. Back in the U.S. the Jesus Project Studio mixed

them with the sound effects of the film.

The S.I. Pijin Jesus Film is now in 4 formats: 16mm film, video, audio and

radio versions.

In collaboration with the S.I.C.A. churches, Campus Crusade plans to have 4

film teams run by the churches, to show the Jesus film right throughout

Malaita, and 2 teams operating here in Guadalcanal. Campus Crusade for

Christ are supplying the films, projectors, equipment and training for the

Team members. Over the next 3 years, a plan to give everyone an opportunity

to view the Jesus Film is envisaged.

A V.I.P. premiere of the S.I. Pijin Jesus Film at the Forum Fisheries

Authority Conference Hall was held at 7.00pm on 29th October, 99. The

invited guests which numbered about 120 people included the Prime Minister

Bartholomew and his wife, several government officials, church personnel,

translators, approval committee members, voice actors and several invited

guests. While thanking those responsible, Catholic Communications was also

mentioned for use of their studio space.

It is hoped that at this time of the ethnic tension, many lives will be

changed as people of the Solomon Islands view this film.
