“You received without cost, give without cost.” (Matt 10:8)

By Fr. James Kyaw Hoe, SDB

Don Bosco House, Nakasi (Suva), Fiji Islands, 12 August 2020 -- Brother Peter Minh Duc Nguyen had been preparing for his Final Profession for a long time; then on Sunday, 9 August 2020, he knelt before the altar of the Lord and professed the total offering of himself to the Lord for the young people and the poor as a son and Salesian of Don Bosco.

To be part of and witnesses to Br. Peter’s Final Profession, there was a small gathering of our Sunday Catechetics School students and their parents, friends of the community, lecturers from the Pacific Regional Seminary and, fellow religious from other congregations who were with Br. Peter for a special Hesed Program designed to help religious prepare for their final profession. Many of the young people and their parents who witnessed Br. Peter’s Profession were visibly moved.

Br. Peter did his Practical Training in Salelologa (Savai’i, Samoa) from 2017-2018. This meant a lot for the confreres in the community, especially those from Samoa. All the work and preparation that went into celebrating Br. Peter’s Final Profession was a heartfelt expression of thanks for the energy, the creativity, the joy, and the lively spirit of Don Bosco that Br. Peter brings to the Pacific.

For his Final Profession, Br. Peter chose the theme from Gospel, “You received with cost, give with cost” (Matt 10:8). Without cost the God of love gave Br. Peter the gift of Don Bosco… without cost Peter has given himself completely for the young and the poor people in the Pacific… as Don Bosco did - “For you I study, for you I work, for you I love, for you I am ready even to give my life.”

Congratulations, Bro. Peter Minh Duc Nguyen.
