EAO, 26 August 2020 -- Thanks to the Don Bosco Green Alliance (DBGA), the Salesians in 313 Don Bosco-Salesian institutions living in 63 countries are deeply involved in Poep Francis' 'Laudato Si' movement. One month - The Season of Creation - is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.

The season starts 1 September, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and ends 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations and by many non-Christians as well.

Over the past five years, the Catholic Church has joined other Christian Churches in celebrating 1st September as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, celebrated by the Orthodox Church since 1989. This ecumenical venture has now been expanded into a month-long period known as the ‘Season of Creation’.

According to the Holy Father, “The annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation offers to individual believers and to the community a precious opportunity to renew our personal participation in our vocation as stewards of creation, raising to God our thanks for the marvellous works that He has entrusted to our care, invoking his help for the protection of creation and his mercy for the sins committed against the world in which we live.”

Throughout the month-long celebration, the world’s 2.2 billion Christians come together to care for our common home. The Don Bosco Green Alliance will be a part of the Season Of Creation 2020, and we would like to invite all our members to be a part of the festivities as well. Within the EAO region some 40 institutions and 7 provinces of Salesian Cooperators are registered members.

We would like to hear more about the various initiatives that you have undertaken, along with the progress on your commitments as well as your participation in our campaign - Rethink, Reconnect, Renew. Click on the link below to fill up the form and let us know about your activities.

Thanks to the FABC-Office of Human Development/Climate Change Desk, we have the prayer and animation materials available on the Boscolink: The material consists of an Holy Hour for the month of September and an e-booklet entitled "Reflections on Aqua Fons Vitae" containing reflection for each day during the Season of Creation beginning from 1st September 2020 to 4th October 2020. The reflections are based on the Vatican Document "Aqua Fons Vitae: Orientations on Water" released in March by the Dicastery of Promoting Integral Human Development: For each day a short text from the Vatican document Aqua Fons Vitae, one or two questions for reflection, an activity for each day and a brief intercessory prayer.

For those EAO Salesians and our institutions who are not yet familiar with the Don Bosco Green Alliance, you may simply visit their website or YouTube channel or even share your own simple ecology related activities through the Google form

For example, the PGS Viceprovince is getting organized for the incoming 'Season of Creation' (cf. Boscolink), with an invitation to all rectors and Youth Ministry animation in both countries of PNG and Solomon Islands.

As a matter of fact, there are still many schools within the EAO region who are not yet registered or aware of the Don Bosco Green Alliance movement that is followed by many enthusiastic young people all around the world.
