Word and Life - Wins Three Awards for 2013 (FIN)

MAKATI CITY (PHILIPPINES) 15 November, 2013- The 35th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) was held today at the GSIS Theater with Cardinal Chito Tagle, DD giving the inspiring Welcoming Remarks. The Archdiocese of Manila, through His Eminence, the late Archbishop Jaime L. Cardinal Sin, organized the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) in 1978, in observance of the International Social Communication Day, which was established by the Universal Church to stress the importance of mass media and to instil a sense of responsibility in communicators. Since 1978, the CMMA was held every year onwards, in the four media fields of Print, Television, Radio, Film and Advertising.

In 1992, the CMMA focused on rewarding media products that exemplify both technical excellence and the transmittal of human values. Through this, the CMMA aimed to better tap the immense potential of mass media for spreading genuine Christian values. Since the Awards deal with mass media as a means for total human development, CMMA has always stressed that the winning production need not be Christian and the awardees need not be Catholic.

As there is a revolution in communication with the coming of the Internet and mobile phones, CMMA also included the Internet in its 2001 categories.

This year the Salesians of Don Bosco, through the Word and Life Publications, had won all its three official entries. Fr. Salvatore Putzu, SDB, the Editor In Chief of Word & Life Publications, personally received the trophies for Word & Life Magazine as the Best Youth Magazine (for the second time) and for the Comics "Pedro Calungsod: The Young Catechist and Martyr" as the Best Comic Story.

Fr. Bernard Nolasco, SDB also personally received the award for his column in Word & Life Magazine "Between The Lines" as the Best Entertainment Column. Fr. Drans, as he is fondly called, is presently the FIN Delegate for Social Communications. This is the 4th time he has won praise for the column  "Between the Lines." It is about pop/rock music and the wonderful way he relates them to spiritual values.
