I dream of rainbows...St John Bosco's Relic lands in Southern Philippines

NEGROS: 6 December 2010 -- After a brief stop-over in Mactan Airport Cebu to process customs and immigration papers, the Relic of St. John Bosco landed
at 6:50 in the morning in Bacolod, Negros, the island where the Salesian work in the Philippines began. The light shower that caused some worry for the welcoming entourage stopped almost on cue as soon as the plane touched down. And to everyone’s delight two beautiful rainbows arched across the sky. Somehow putting realism to their theme song whose first line begins “I dream of rainbows lighting up the sky.”
On hand to meet the relic at the tarmac were a handful of Salesians led by Fr Geroge Militante, FIS Provincial, and Bishop Patrick Buzon. The rest of the welcoming entourage waited eagerly just outside the airport fence – and they were aplenty! The mayor was there, representatives of the police, and bus loads of students. They formed the long convoy that finally ended at the Cathedral.
At ten in the morning, Bishop Navarra celebrated the Holy Mass. The Cathedral was filled to overflowing. Those who came to venerate lined up patiently until two in the afternoon. Later, another motorcade with a truckload of military escort led the relic to the mountain parish of St John Bosco Mambucal stopping briefly at two parishes and clusters of barrio people along the way. The parish priest, Fr Andy Satura, SDB and the Salesians later led various groups to an overnight vigil. By dawn, the relic was brought to Don Bosco Technical Institute, Victorias. Students from various schools waved their flags. They filled up the roads leading to the entrance of the School. They held a solemn procession, as their Rector, Fr Broderick Segovia and his community accompanied the relic to the gymnasium amidst the applause and shouts of “Viva Don Bosco!”
