'Localization' industry gaining grounds in the region- two new Salesianity books published, other items under consideration

JAKARTA-DILI: 5th May 2006 -- 'Localization' (usually spelled with a 'z') is a term used in the software industry in reference to making software available at local level, e.g. in a local language  It is also abbreviated to l10n, that is, the letter 'el' followed by the number 'ten', followed by the letter 'en'.  The first and last letters of the word localization with the number of letters (10) omitted.  By the same token, it is sometimes called 'internationalization' or i18n!  In the same week, news has come in of two l10n efforts in the region, with discussion of possible others.
In Jakarta, MIMPI YANG MENJADI KENYATAAN (The dreams are coming true), published in Bahasa Indonesia by the social communication sector of Saint John Bosco Parish in Jakarta, edited by layman, Laurence Suraynata; 140 pages, 1500 copies with coloured pictures of the Salesian holy places, Becchi, Mondonio, Mornese, Valdocco, Rome etc. not only with historical explanations but also connected to the present mission of the Salesian Family in Indonesia. The book we pushed ahead by the first Indonesian pilgrimage group to leave for these holy places in Europe two weeks later (May 20).
In Dili, the critical edition of the letters of st. Mary Mazarello, in Tetum, on of two official languages of Timor Leste, translated by the FMA of TIN province, distributed during the retreat in Dare (joint SDB, FMA) on the occcassion of 125th anniversary of death of Mary Mazzarello.
Meanwhile, at least two provinces in the region have expressed an interest in the Elledici DVD on Mamma Margherita.  This is in fact a DVD version of an earlier VHS production by Giuseppe Rolando.  Vietnam have already dubbed it into Vietnamese.  The Chinese Cooperators are mulling over the idea of putting it into Chinese.
While talking 'resources' - with tomorrow being the Feast of St. Dominic Savio, an enterprising young priest from AUL, Fr Will Matthews, has made available in pdf a simple prayer service that could be used in almost any setting (in English).  He made it available more locally, but I've taken the liberty of i18n-ing it!  You will find it on www.sdb.org under resources.
