Don Bosco's Feast to be celebrated in Bangladesh for the first time

KOLKATA: 30th January 2006 --Two Kolkata Salesians, Frs Robin Gomes and C M Paul, are leaving early morning 30th January for Dhaka (Bangladesh) to celebrate the feast of Don Bosco, 31st January, for the first time at a Don Bosco School and College. The College is at Uttara Dhaka and is run by a Don Bosco Krishnagar West Bengal Past Pupil, Mr. Henry Mondol.  He was a special participant at one of the annual induction programmes Fr Paul organized for new Teachers from the Don Bosco Schools in the Calcutta province ten years ago!
As well as the solemn Eucharistic celebration to be presided over by Fr Robin who hails from Attarogram in Bangladesh, they will also screen a half hour Don Bosco Film in Bengali and conduct one half day orientation programme for the teachers and another for the senior students.  They will also attend the silver jubilee celebrations of the Radio Veritas Asia, Manila, Bengali Service at Notre Dame College Dhaka and attend the RVA Council at the Archbishop's House Dhaka., 1-3 February.
Nitika Don Bosco Kolkata established in 1977 as a Catechetical and Media centre, has been a partner and pioneer in this Radio Ministry since its inception in 1981. Fr Robin Gomes, the present Rector of Don Bosco Nitika Calcutta has been on air with his programmes in the Bengali language for the past 16 years. Currently he hosts a 20 minute Sunday programme on the Sunday Gospel for listeners who are mostly Bengali-speaking Muslims and Hindus in India and Bangladesh. The frequent reports from hundreds of listener clubs established in the numerous villages across Bengal and Bangladesh is proof of the following that RVA ministry enjoys. Fr Robin also served two terms as Programme Coordinator and Producer staying in Manila for 8 years. He also hosts weekly Television programmes in Bengali.
There are no Don Bosco Institutions run by SDBs in Bangladesh now,  though Salesians were there before Partition and Independence from India in 1947.  Those institutions and parishes were under the Calcutta province and Krishnagar diocese at the time.
