Don Bosco Vientiane - Laos, 22 October 2020 -- Greetings from the quiet country of Laos! We are always isolated. It is already 7 months since we have been able to go out of the country. In this Covid year we have started the academic year 2 months late (end of June) and have accepted only a limited number of 50 students due to some necessary restrictions. We have some difficulties, but we can still carry out our mission quite smoothly. We are happy to share two recent meaningful events from Don Bosco Vientiane.

On October 6, 2020 the Salesians, all teachers, the cooks and the students met in the Don Bosco Vientiane TVET hall for the annual celebration of Teachers Day. The trainees expressed their respect and gratitude to the teachers by singing a song and reading the historical account of Teachers Day. Two senior teachers shared their past experiences in teaching at Don Bosco Center. The touching "Mat-Kean" ceremony followed. Then, Fr. Rector addressed the 7 teachers and 1 cook who have worked in our Center for more than 10 years and expressed his appreciation. He also gave each of them a symbolic gift in the name of Don Bosco Center. Staying together as a family creates the atmosphere that makes everybody feel happy.

On October 8, in the afternoon, our Center was honored by the unexpected visit of Mr. Alunxai Sunnalat, Secretary General of the Lao Youth Union and Member of the Lao Government. He was accompanied by Mr. Piya Totou, Head of the Department of the Lao Youth Union for the vocational development of the young. Also other Youth Union Officials were present . Besides our teachers and students, also the teachers and students of the FMA Don Bosco Garment vocational Center, and the teachers and students of the Youth Union vocational Center in Vientiane were invited. The Hall of our Center was at full capacity. The family atmosphere was created by the songs, the music and the dances of the young people. Mr. Alunxai was delighted by this entertainment. Then, He gave an inspiring talk that kept everybody attentive and interested in many and practical advice they heard. It was a great encouragement for all of us!

We are happy to share these two events and ask your prayers for our educative-pastoral community of Don Bosco Vientiane - Laos!
