Blessing of the Grotto of Mary Help of Christians

BOROKO (Port Moresby, PNG): 17th September 2007 -- On September 8th, at 6.60 pm, Archbishop Sir Brian Barnes OFM, DD, inaugurated and blessed the newly constructed Grotto of Our Lady Help of Christians. It is located under the staircase leading to the second floor of the main church.  The Salesians, Salesian Sisters and Caritas Sisters, aspirants, boarders, some guests and benefactors witnessed the blessing.  The new five bells for the Church under construction arrived recently from Italy.  The church or future Shrine to Mary Help of Christians is expected to be completed by April 2008.  Fr Valeriano Barbero, the pioneer Salesian of the PNG mission is the man behind this construction of the MHC church.  It crowns more than 25 years of effort on his part (he arrived in 1980) but more importantly is a fitting tribute to Don Bosco's Madonna.
